A great classic that fully deserves the label. A strong story, excellent actors and the constant threat of war hanging in the air, which finally strikes and shakes everything up. The film would have greatly benefited from a more lavish widescreen format. ()
Nowadays, it's not a film that would work as well as it did sixty years ago. It's a response to Pearl Harbor, but also to the ongoing issues that have been and still are present in the military. Montgomery Clift once again demonstrates what a great actor he was and how captivating he was to watch in every role. Men generally take the lead in this film, both in terms of quantity and in their performances. ()
