Landon Carter est l'archétype du lycéen cool et superficiel américain. Il fait la connaissance de Jamie Sullivan, une jeune fille plutôt introvertie, douée d'un optimisme à toute épreuve et d'un sens de la répartie qu'elle utilise aux dépens de Landon. Alors que tout oppose ce chef de bande vantard et suffisant à la timide adolescente, la fascination cède progressivement la place à l'amour. Tournant le dos à ses anciens amis, trouvant un nouveau sens à sa vie, Landon est prêt à commencer une nouvelle vie avec Jamie, mais celle-ci refuse de s'engager. Landon apprend bientôt qu'elle est atteinte d'une maladie incurable. Landon et Jamie vont devoir apprendre à accepter la fatalité et profiter au jour le jour du peu de temps qu'il leur reste... As long as everyone is kind, honest, nice, and caring or vice versa, mean and deceitful, I was grinning at how nothing so black and white could be meant to be taken seriously. But as soon as the main hero gives the first reasons for sympathy, and Mandy Moore sings on stage, there is no doubt that I will find myself in this. A sweet and painful romance as it should be, with exaggerated final pathos, but also sincere tearjerker moments.

A film that has heart and doesn't play games. People change and often it's the other person's fault… She gave him everything, he gave her even more… For me, one of the best American romances and (so far) the role of a lifetime for Mandy Moore. On top of that, nice music... 5 stars.

A riveting and adult film for melancholics, romantics and all those who take the phrase "true love" seriously. Brilliantly acted, brilliantly directed.

Another romance from the great Nicholas Sparks. He's the writer responsible for "Talisman" and "Safe Haven." The boy is trying hard, and you might think you’re watching a real romance with something extra, but when you look back on it, you’ll realize you’ve just been given empty promises and nothing more. It’s a nice film that looks good and where your girlfriend - and maybe even you - might shed a tear at the end.
