(Gaumont)

The biggest mystery of L'Atalante and Grand Illusion remains the influence of Dita Parlo on Madonna (think of Erotica and Sex in 1992 "My name is Dita, I'll be your mistress tonight...") and Dita von Teese. How this could inspire anyone to do anything is a mystery to me. ()
Not every classic has to resonate with me so deeply for me to understand and love it. Atalanta simply didn't affect me, it didn't say anything to me, and as a romantic film, it didn't appeal to me much either. Perhaps I'll understand the charm of Vigo's films more often someday, but that hasn't happened yet. There are interesting scenes here, no doubt, but I guess I don't understand the significance of the film. ()
