anglais For half the film, they keep Kline’s detective’s special abilities under wraps (we only know he can get a woman to bed on the first date), and then it’s finally revealed that he’s a New York Monk who approaches problems through prime numbers, the starry sky, and a firefighter’s nature (while everyone is running outside, he goes inside). Genre-wise and in terms of character, it’s oddly unmoored and definitely not a pure comedy. The way the investigation is conducted is more so amusing, and the capture of the culprit borders on farce. However, as one-time entertainment with a strong cast, it serves its purpose well. Among the characters, Aiello stands out as the typically loudmouthed police chief, who defied two clichés: he wasn't black, and despite his frequent state of resignation, he wasn’t actually loudmouthed. P.S.: What would the 80s be without music in the closing credits that unmistakably screams the 80s? ()
