In 1942, London is in the middle of the Blitz. The city is blacked out and bombs shatter the night. Charlotte Gray is an ordinary woman who travels from Scotland to London to see how she can help. At a party, she meets Peter, a battle-weary RAF pilot on leave, and they fall in love. But the affair is abruptly halted when Peter is called back into service and his plane is shot down over France. If he is alive, he is probably hiding, sheltered by the French Resistance. Soon, Charlotte is also on her way to France, for like many women fluent in French, she has been recruited as a secret agent, working to support the Resistance. She could have asked for an assignment at home, but instead she jettisons fear, accepting a dangerous mission behind enemy lines, keeping secret her personal mission to find her missing lover. Une très belle caméra, les costumes et en général la représentation historique du lieu et de la période. Mais l'intrigue n'a pas de moteur et le film est trop étouffé et fade jusqu'au dernier quart. Même Cate Blanchett dans le film ne se démarque pas, comme si elle suivait les instructions de la réalisatrice "moins c'est parfois plus". Sans cette dramatisation à la fin, le film me laisserait aussi froid que la lecture d'un livre sans intérêt.

Despite the excellent camera work, it is quite an average affair, mainly due to the script, which takes the somewhat cumbersome subject matter too seriously, thus undermining the tension. However, the characters ultimately find their way into the viewer's heart, and thanks to the captivating performance by Cate Blanchett and the excellent Michael Gambon, boredom is not a concern.

A romantic drama set in World War II that tells the story of a Scottish woman's tremendous determination to give up almost everything for the love of a man. Charlotte Gray is a film that tells the story of a very common theme today:war and its effects on those around it. It's an incredibly moving, telling story, and a very realistic one in terms of the anti-Semitism of the time. The whole film is accompanied by a beautiful musical score and the visual impact is provided by great cinematography. The actors were well very cast, a great Cate Blanchett and a great Billy Crudup with Michael Gambon. Truly, a film that doesn't lack quality and its only major issue on the overall image for me was the running time and a few other negligible little flaws.
