Dans le Paris mondain de 1847, les rencontres galantes ont lieu au théâtre, au bal et dans les cercles de jeux où la discrétion est de mise... et le jeu c'est l'amour. anglais Greta Garbo is absolutely incredible, and when she tries to distance herself from her lover, she's incredibly chilling and cold. A guy never wants to find himself in a situation where a woman will treat him like that. Here, it's truly captured in an incredibly strong and emotive way, which really got to me. It's also due to the excellently chosen actors for their roles. The story doesn't try to be overly dramatic, yet you still have apprehensions about what's to come, especially if you're unfamiliar with the story and haven't read it. ()

anglais Unlike many people, I don't consider this film to be the highlight of Greta's career, and of the sound films I choose Queen Christina and Anna Christie on principle. Of the silent films, the vast majority, especially The Kiss and The Street of Sorrow. Still, it is a joy to see the despair of Robert Taylor, who so typically saw it too late. ()
