À l'aube d'une nouvelle guerre contre les Sioux et les Cheyennes, le Général McCabe prend le commandement d'une colonne de soldats fraîchement formés. Autant d'hommes jeunes qu'il n'hésitera pas, comme les précédents, à sacrifier pour vaincre l'ennemi. Pour s'attribuer tout le mérite d'une victoire, il divise ses forces en ordonnant au Capitaine Harrod, un officier lucide de plus en plus hostile à son autorité, de poursuivre un groupe d'Indiens. The kind of western where strong scenes alternate with moments that are more lighthearted, and the film definitely reflects the era it was made in. The premise is quite original, and the ending was something I definitely didn't see coming. However, when the first half hour features a brawl between Demas and Sol over a drink, I felt like I was watching a slapstick comedy rather than a serious film. But things took a turn with the final large-scale action scene, which, considering the year it was made, pleasantly surprised me.
