A cryptic letter summons John Mason (John Wayne) and Janet Carter (Sheila Terry) to a gold mine they own shares in. When they arrive, they're confronted by outlaws bent on plundering the gold. If it didn't end amusingly, especially on that mysterious level, it would have been a much more successful and interesting film for its time. Even so, it's a good combination - the blend of gold hunting, villains, an honorable guy, and a phantom surprisingly works very well. Moreover, John Wayne demonstrates that he truly wasn't afraid of stunt work in his scenes.
