Les fans avaient obtenu un sursis au terme de la saison 7. Mais cette fois ces douze nouveaux épisodes de la série culte de Showtime seront les derniers. Pour cet ultime rendez-vous, Charlotte Rampling dans le rôle du docteur Vogel accompagne les dernières aventures du serial killer le plus attachant du petit écran... "Depuis la fin de la saison 6, il y a deux ans, nous avions une idée très précise de la scène finale que nous souhaitions pour DEXTER, explique la productrice Sara Colleton. Cela a été débattu, travaillé, pour proposer sur deux saisons ce qui nous semblait juste et crédible par rapport au personnage et à son évolution." (Canal+)

The final season was the worst that the creators offered in those eight years. For the first time, I was bored, which is something I wasn't used to with Dexter. The character of Dr. Evelyn Vogel was inserted into the story so awkwardly that the writers should be concerned about meeting their “number one fan,” and I might even root for Annie this time. Another thing that made me angry was the totally cop-out ending, in which all evil was punished like in a proper Disney fairy tale.

I agree that there was a noticeable drop in quality, but it wasn't anything dramatic. On the other hand, I have to disagree with the majority that Debra seemed particularly unsympathetic. What she went through in the final episode of the previous season really affects a person psychologically. So why did I find the eighth season the weakest? At times, it felt like the plot was going in circles, and I couldn’t overlook the lack of a more prominent antagonist. The final episode was shocking, and I'm a bit uncertain about it, so we’ll see how the creators handle it moving forward. For me, it's 7/10.
