If it weren’t bogged down by tension stemming from relationship grievances, if it played more with a striking finale, and if it didn’t feel so television-like, it would be a completely different film. Jean Dujardin, who hides until the end what piece he represents in this chess game, has successfully stepped into Delon’s shoes.
