Matthew Crawley, nouveau successeur en lice et lointain cousin, arrive à Downton Abbey. Downton Abbey (2010)

anglais I enjoy both the premise and the setting. The series is filmed very professionally. Plus, it features Maggie Smith, whose Violet Crawley makes brutal bon mots about everything, and Michelle Dockery, who has been a favorite of mine since her role as Susan in Hogfather. With such a constellation, it's virtually impossible for me to be dissatisfied. Of course, I realize that the plot is extremely idealized. So what? Since I’m generally cynical about what life and film has to offer, I was almost taken aback by how good I felt watching this series. ()

Season 6 (2015) (S06)

anglais Now that the series is over, I can’t help thinking that many filmmakers would give their left arm to be able to make a first season half as good as this show’s first season. Not to mention the seasons that followed. Anyway, it’s the end of a long series that was about exactly the things I enjoy most about Britain. I will definitely miss it and I sure wouldn’t mind if a couple more seasons were made. ()

A l'aube d'un nouveau monde (2015) (S06E01)

anglais It's hard to imagine giving any episode of this series a low rating. The show is expertly crafted, set in England, and delves into the dynamics of life "upstairs" and "downstairs" – a theme that never fails to captivate me. If it weren't for the overly sentimental ending, I probably would have given it five stars. ()

Le Piège des émotions (2015) (S06E02)

anglais I'm glad they skipped the overly sentimental ending this time. The show’s theme might not be for everyone, but you can't ignore its high level of professionalism. ()

Annonces

En pleine effervescence (2015) (S06E03)

anglais I'm finding it hard to critique a show I genuinely love. From the start, Downton Abbey has been a hit for me, even with its occasional hiccups. ()

En toute franchise (2015) (S06E06)

anglais Once again, I found myself predictably satisfied. What can I say? This show is just that good. I think I could get used to the 'discomfort' of owning such a massive house, to the point where I wouldn't even notice the furnishings and decorations in each room. Plus, it's quite a challenge when you only have forty years to take it all in. ()

Les Soeurs ennemies (2015) (S06E08)

anglais Episode eight was packed with events and had a darker tone than usual. Once again, I have to applaud not just the plot development but especially the character development, which drives the story so well. I thoroughly enjoyed the revelation of Cassandra Jones' identity. ()

Le Plus beau des cadeaux (2015) (S06E09)

anglais The final double episode was thoroughly positive, yet it didn't drown me in heaps of sentimentality, which would have surely happened if it were an American series. I'd say it was a fitting and dignified conclusion. ()
