anglais Grabbing the story of the most famous martyr sternly, strictly ascetically, and without the slightest inclination towards pathos was a task perfectly suited for Robert Bresson. Unfortunately, more than thirty years earlier, Carl Theodor Dreyer had already done something similar in The Passion of Joan of Arc and the result was more thrilling, more aesthetic, better acted, and overall a class better. It's a great pity; The Trial of Joan of Arc is an hour of musical chairs that is not lead by its documentary string so much as bound and gagged by it. ()

anglais Routine and narratively sterile, without a single interesting idea or a shred of emotion. Once Bresson drops the stylistic experiments and doesn't overwhelm the parameters, it gets pretty boring. ()
