A woman was badly beaten, so she decided to flee to Florida with her children and bet on the marijuana business with a friend. She involves the children in it somewhat, or at least tells them about it. The fact that this film is based on a true story is probably the most crucial aspect, as it enhances the impact that would otherwise be quite bland. It's still somewhat bland, but at least you can tell yourself that various things do happen.
