Un éléphant ça trompe énormément

This is a story of a bashful philanderer who you can't help but hope gets caught in his misdeeds, and hilariously, things constantly go wrong for him. The humor is smart, and it took me a good half-hour to really get into it, probably because Jean Rochefort plays his role like he's the world's biggest sweetheart. But once I got into it, I was laughing non-stop. Thanks to the final scene, I'll always think of this movie when I stand in front of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. (11/10/2022)

While platonic love eats away at a person, platonic infidelity, due to its "incompleteness," can be easily enjoyed. Well, except for Mr. Dorsay, who met a lady in red in an underground garage... It's fairly intelligent humor built on the inexperience of an amateur philanderer who tries to avoid mistakes based on his friends' experiences and protect his own well-being by tossing his wife's gun into the river. It's entertaining when it draws from misunderstandings, but clumsy in its situational comedy (e.g., Claude Brasseur's blind rage in the restaurant). Whether the story's arc ending at the Arc de Triomphe was a victory for the main character is up to you to decide... I'm not sure if it was the unchanged expression, the clumsiness in human interactions, or the mustache, but Jean Rochefort reminded me a bit of a certain Peter Sellers character... (05/10/2022)

A nice comedy that doesn't provoke volleys of laughter by someone hitting something, falling, slapping someone or being slapped by someone, but by natural dialogues and polished scenes in general. But if the main role was played by someone other than Jean Rochefort, on whose ordinary little man it all rests, I don't know.___P.S. I think the dubbing by Vladimír Fišer helped the film a lot.
