I was expecting a somewhat different approach. From the trailers, one might think that Justin Lin would deliver a series full of luxurious action sequences and an overall adrenaline-packed ride. No, that didn’t materialize. It might serve as light entertainment for an afternoon, where you switch off your brain, but it was a bit of a letdown for me personally. Some of the cases tackled by the SWAT team don’t seem to fall within their jurisdiction; they end up functioning as all security agencies across the USA, and thus the series doesn’t really focus on credibility. Even when there are a few tense sequences, it all still looks like cheap B-movie fare. Definitely not something from a director who significantly contributed to Star Trek. The cast is decent; Shemar Moore is a very charismatic actor, and the role of Hondo seems tailor-made for him. So, I advise you not to expect too much. If you don’t have high expectations, you might enjoy it. I give it 63%. ()
