The show's premise grabbed my attention right away. The first episode introduces us to a story set in rural America during the Great Depression and Prohibition. The creators did a great job crafting a retro atmosphere and a bunch of interesting characters. I would be even more satisfied if they hadn’t felt the need to include modern quotas. The only literate prostitute is, of course, a Black woman, and one of the toughest characters is, of course, a woman. I wouldn't mind this if the story wasn't set in 1931 — it feels a bit like sci-fi. ()
