This mosaic-like biographic drama about the final years of internationally respected Czech writer Karel Čapek was made shortly before the revolution in 1989. In their retrospective, the filmmakers revisit the milestones in the life of the writer - and of the Czech nation. They contemplate the principles of democracy, the position of intellectuals in the society, and Czech national character. (Summer Film School)
