In this elegant installment from the series, the ever-chivalrous Hercule Poirot (David Suchet) is rewarded with more than just gratitude when he helps a woman alight from a cab outside his dentist's office. When the popular dentist is gunned down, a murderous chain of events ensues and a broken shoe buckle becomes the key to solving a deadly web of deception that only Poirot can unravel. The Million Dollar Bond Robbery (1991) (S03E03)

anglais It got me somehow that part of the movie takes place on the Queen Mary, mainly because the historical events were nicely incorporated into the story. Poirot tackles another case with a surprising outcome, which is simply delightful. One simply feels that Agatha had the patent on how to conduct a detective story so that essentially until the end, you didn't know who the killer was. ()

The Plymouth Express (1991) (S03E04)

anglais I wasn't really hooked on this episode, even though I'm glad Hastings is back, although he didn't disappear for long. The plot is quite interesting, but personally, I don't really like the twist, or rather the revelation, of how she was seen somewhere despite being dead. This is too much of a cliché for me. ()

Wasps' Nest (1991) (S03E05)

anglais Writing a detective story about solving a case that hasn't actually happened yet is simply a showcase of mastery. Especially when such a detective story actually works. Agatha entrusted it to the brilliant Poirot - who else? - and this story was excellently adapted into the film. It’s a beautiful demonstration of how to make a detective story without murder. ()

The Tragedy at Marsdon Manor (1991) (S03E06)

anglais A fantastic episode that captivates mainly with its horror atmosphere. It simply succeeded, and it stays appropriately dark until the end. Even though you suspect it's all based on reality, you still can't help but start thinking that those ghosts might be real and there's something to the haunting. It still maintains that Poirot-esque humor at the same time. ()

The Double Clue (1991) (S03E07)

anglais Such a strange episode. The detective case isn't great, but it's not bad. It is indeed mysterious. But from the actual case, the viewer's attention is completely diverted because what's much more significant is that even in Poirot's life, there's room for love or romance, or whatever else you might call it. In that respect, the film works well. ()

The Mystery of the Spanish Chest (1991) (S03E08)

anglais Seeing Poirot dance is an experience in itself, but here, it's accompanied by an interesting, fairly gritty story of a murder. The death in the Spanish chest definitely ranks among the more gruesome ones in the series, and it's depicted surprisingly vividly, although the main emphasis is still on the viewer's imagination. The plot is pleasantly tangled. ()

The Theft of the Royal Ruby (1991) (S03E09)

anglais The comedic aspect in this case is truly well done, especially Poirot's encounters with the prince, as these are two perfectly different characters. The plot with the ruby isn't too bad either, and the individual Christmas props are used quite innovatively. Plus, the entire time you don't know what's going on, and who's dead and who's not. In that respect, the episode was a success. ()

The Affair At The Victory Ball (1991) (S03E10)

anglais Poirot is absolutely perfect at the ball, especially in the way he's the only one without a costume, even though he says something different. He fits in perfectly. The story is intertwined with radio broadcasting, which is also where the murderer is eventually exposed. It’s a truly great approach, and the whole detective story gains something extra because of it. ()

The Mystery of Hunter's Lodge (1991) (S03E11)

anglais Excellent both in terms of comedy and the detective plot, even though disguises are used again, which becomes clear to the viewer quite early on. In this sense, the story is taken almost to the point of absurdity, which works beautifully. Poirot and his dying are truly excellent, and it fits beautifully into the overall serious tone. ()

A.B.C. contre Poirot (1992) (S04E01)

anglais Certainly one of the best installments of Hercule Poirot, which shows that Agatha truly had a knack for writing detective stories and presented a truly unique killer here. He is worth it, just like the whole plot, which is brilliantly developed and incredibly well thought out. You really won't know who the killer is and why they are doing it for a long time. ()

La Mort dans les nuages (1992) (S04E02)

anglais When a murder takes place right in front of Hercule Poirot, on a plane, and without him even noticing, that's something worth paying attention to. Hercule then conducts a splendid investigation, which includes reconstructions, a lot of traveling, and a classic resolution in front of a group of people, where you don't know who the murderer actually is. A great episode. ()

Un, deux, trois (1992) (S04E03)

anglais If I were the people who were in the vicinity of Hercule Poirot, I would start to be afraid. So the detective goes to the dentist, and a few hours later, the dentist is found dead. But as the dying begins, it becomes even richer, and there are more dead bodies. It’s very well put together and the plot is well executed until the very end. ()

The Adventure of the Egyptian Tomb (1993) (S05E01)

anglais As soon as something takes place in Egypt, I get excited about it. I like Egypt. Here, moreover, you see Hercules in Egypt, who is absolutely unsuited to the sand and heat. This is also a beautiful contrast. Agatha managed to brilliantly explain how the curse of the tomb can work if it's exploited by an intelligent and twisted person who knows a bit about psychology. ()

The Underdog (1993) (S05E02)

anglais Once politics enters the scene, it's not as interesting for me, but in the case of Poirot, it doesn't bother me that much. When you have a dead person who was pretty nasty, you almost feel like they deserved it. The investigation is quick and well-done, but still, you can't shake off the feeling that this is one of the less captivating episodes. At least it's entertaining in places. ()

Yellow Iris (1993) (S05E03)

anglais Here, I really liked the way the story is told. First, Hercule Poirot reveals a past event that happened to him, which will obviously have consequences in his present. One detective case from Poirot's past that he just has to solve, even if he hasn't succeeded yet. And, of course, he will solve it. ()

The Case of the Missing Will (1993) (S05E04)

anglais It may not be as strong an episode, but I still enjoyed it. Basically, anyone could have been the killer, everyone could have been somehow involved in the killing, everyone had some secret, and many didn't even know about it. Seeing Poirot angry also has something to it. The resolution was interesting, and I must say, beautifully tangled, making it quite difficult to guess. ()

The Adventure of the Italian Nobleman (1993) (S05E05)

anglais It's such a serene episode, where someone dies again, but it's all in such a relaxed atmosphere, where you kind of sense who the killer might be, somewhat from the beginning, because there's one surprisingly unexpected element present. But the series is still good and can be suspenseful. Here, they also utilize a bit of those cars that Hastings is very fond of. ()

The Chocolate Box (1993) (S05E06)

anglais I was quite curious about this episode due to the title, and I must say it didn't disappoint me in any way. The use of the candy box is quite clever, and it's evident that Agatha always had ideas up her sleeve. The resolution is excellent, but overall, it's a very good idea how it's told - through flashbacks that have an impact on the present. It's been used in the series before, but it doesn't get old quickly. ()

Dead Man's Mirror (1993) (S05E07)

anglais It felt like a slightly weaker episode to me, although it's somewhat compensated by who the actual killer turns out to be. Essentially, it could have been anyone, which was eventually confirmed. The killer didn't even cross my mind. This is mainly because the episode is full of clues that point to all kinds of characters. That keeps the tension up nicely. ()

The Jewel Robbery at the Grand Metropolitan (1993) (S05E08)

anglais A pretty enjoyable episode, starting off with something not being quite right with Poirot. He seems to be very ill. He needs a break. But how is the beleaguered detective supposed to relax when crimes are happening in his proximity? It's not about murder, but that certainly doesn't mean this episode is boring or lacks suspense. ()
