Not a big disappointment, but a small one for sure. There was room here for a pretty wild action comedy, but they decided it would be a message-driven film, telling the story of just one superhero who couldn't cope with his abilities. Will Smith excelled in this, even though the film didn't fully succeed in terms of special effects. No, this just didn't entertain me much.

American Hero seems like a debut effort from a beginning director rather than a film from someone with extensive experience in filmmaking who has also produced quality films like The Football Factory. The trailer shows practically everything interesting that can be seen in the film, the rest is just boring filler where most of the time is spent on drugs and talking crap. From a technical standpoint, it is also very below average and even Stephen Dorff himself and the black guy on the wheelchair cannot save it.
