The Guilty

Si l’on connaît l’original norvégien et donc l’ensemble de l’intrigue, y compris le dénouement, The Guilty ne parvient pas à enthousiasmer. On se contente plutôt d’apprécier la présence de Jake Gyllenhaal et de comparer le concept formel, qui est ici enrichi par les grands écrans d’un centre de communication montrant des incendies en Californie. L’intensité de l’état mental exacerbé du personnage principal est surprenante pour un film Netflix grand public, comme si Antoine Fuqua essayait de compenser le manque de crudité et d’authenticité du film d’origine. Gyllenhaal fait de son mieux en tant qu’acteur et tout le monde sait qu’il est capable, mais le niveau de focalisation sur son personnage est presque superficiellement exagéré. On ne connaît pas suffisamment le personnage et ses qualités humaines pour pouvoir sympathiser avec lui. (24/06/2024)

Si vous avez vu l’original danois de The Guilty, ce remake n’a pas grand-chose à vous apporter. Tout au plus pourrez-vous savourer la prestation compacte de Jake Gyllenhaal, bien qu’avec ce type de clone américain sans réelles innovations, ce soit du gâchis. (15/09/2021)

A thriller... and a cheap one. Gyllenhall savors the ambiguous character of an emergency line operator who gets a call from an abducted woman. With a computer and head set in the supporting roles. I haven’t seen the original and don’t know how much Pizzolatto changed, but the dialogs and twists are very good with the suffocating Covid atmosphere. Calling over the phone and face to face contact just aren’t the same! One day I might watch the original Danish version. (01/10/2021)

An intimate and such a well written film that it seemed to me almost like an adaptation of a very good radio play. I didn't see the original, so I was able to be (for an hour and a half) tense and wait to see what came out of it, because from the beginning something suspicious hung in the air in that strange night atmosphere. Jake Gyllenhaal is great and the point was successful - given that and the overall tone, I understand why the Americans needed to make (remake) this film and at this time. (03/10/2021)

If you're not familiar with the Danish original and were lured in by Jake, you'll probably enjoy this. For those familiar with the original film, it's a complete waste of time that, with complete (and totally irrelevant to the plot) exceptions, just dully copies the excellent original. Unfortunately, Jake Gyllenhaal overacts at times and falls far short of his highest acting qualities as in Prisoners or Zodiac. [55%] (22/11/2021)
