It is 1972, summer, hot. Thirty-year-old Annie takes her young daughter to the country. But the place where the community lives, of which her new boyfriend is a part, is cut off from civilization and Annie soon realises that she is unlikely to find the way on her own. Then, at the lake, she sees something that will affect her whole life. This Swedish detective drama set in the 1970s has the perfectly oppressive, sultry atmosphere of a summer day when the worst happens. The storyline from the past tells us about the complexity of relationships between people from different backgrounds, and the storyline from the present slowly prepares us for the fact that everything has its consequences. In Scandinavian terms, it is an incredibly slow detective story. Although it is dominated by excellent period atmosphere, what good is it when maybe nothing happens to you for twenty minutes out of the hour-long episode. And when something does happen, it's scenes from that religious sect that anyone today would slap in the face so hard they would have to be ashamed. Interesting, but in comparison to other Scandinavian detective stories, unusually boring and drawn out. ()
